Kauttuan Ruukinpuisto Lively village in Eura

Prehistory

The history of Kauttua has said to begun about 7000 years ago after the Ice Age, when people started to sail to another countries and eventually also to Kauttua. When water surface started to lower, lakes and rivers formed to the low-lying areas. That is how lakes Köyliönjärvi, Pyhäjärvi and Eurajoki formed. Back then the area was a dense archipelago, which formed an ideal fishing area for the people in the Stone Age. From those days on the area was populated during the whole Stone Age.

Some Bronze Age homes and graves and also some Iron Age items have been found in Kauttua. Based on the findings it is assumed that Kauttua has been the first inhabited place in the area. The ironworks in Kauttua started propably by the residents of Harola at the early age. Few hundred years later the proper ironworks industry started when Creutz established ironworks in the building where had earlier been a sawmill.
