Alvar Aalto has left his handprints in Kauttua during the years of 1937 - 1944. He designed many buildings in the area and all of them are somehow connected to the paper mill of Ahlstrom.
Porrastalo
was designed in year 1938 and it was completed the same year. It is a
four storey building made of concrete, and there is one appartment in
its every floor. There are no staircases typical to apartment buildings.
Instead the entrance to each appartment goes directly from the slope.
The roofs of the appartments are the terraces to the upper appartments.
Attention! Appartments are in private use and it is not possible to get inside them!
