Between the forties and fifties, the young used to gather around the
train stop to receive mail. At that time, it was possible to travel
to Rauma by train. Once my mother took me shopping there. It was exciting
because I had never been to Rauma. Sometimes we went for a swim to Kauttua.
There was a sawmill next to the stop, and sometimes we were allowed
to visit there and see how the wood was sawed up because our friends
parents worked there. We could see how the timber was cut. A tar factory
used to be next to the train stop and I can still remember the smell
of tar because there were tarry tree stumps on the yard.
